The volume of technical literature, academic papers, and historical archives is expanding faster than human capacity to digest it. Standard retrieval approaches — keyword search and naive embedding-based RAG — frequently fail when applied to dense research domains. They extract isolated chunks out of context, overlooking foundational arguments, historical revisions, and nuanced methodological contradictions.

Named after Alcuin of York, the scholar who organized Charlemagne's library and standardized Carolingian script, Alcuin is our agentic platform designed to bring order, coherence, and profound synthesis to complex research archives.

Alcuin operates through three interrelated stages: Multimodal Ingestion, Causal Graph Construction, and Recursive Agentic Synthesis.

During ingestion, Alcuin parses not just plain text, but formulas, structural tables, architectural diagrams, and citation bibliographies. Rather than flattening documents into homogeneous embedding vectors, it preserves hierarchical document structure and cross-references.

Next, an autonomous agent pipeline reads the ingested documents to build a Causal Knowledge Graph. Nodes represent core hypotheses, empirical results, and theoretical claims, while edges represent relationships: 'refutes', 'extends', 'validates', or 'derives from'. This allows researchers to traverse intellectual lineage across decades of literature.

Finally, Alcuin employs specialized synthesis sub-agents that can construct comparative meta-analyses, trace historical concept evolution, and identify unaddressed gaps in the research landscape.
